Overview of Free Electrons contributions to the user and developer community
Linux kernel developer resources
- Linux Cross Reference (LXR) is a great engine for exploring Linux kernel sources. We have set up our own server with at last, an easy to remember URL: http://lxr.free-electrons.com.
- On-line kernel documentation: includes DocBook files translated to HTML.
- The 3rd edition of the Linux Device Drivers book in a single PDF file.
- And of course, our free Linux kernel and driver development course, and all other free embedded Linux training materials and presentations.
Documentation
- We share all our embedded Linux training materials and technical presentations under a free documentation licence. This represents more than 1000 pages of slides and exercises.
- We encourage translations of these documents.
- We made significant contributions to the Linux Ecology Howto, including a special presentation.
- We released an Ogg/Theora video mini-howto, to encourage video recording of technical conferences.
- The number of visitors to our website shows how useful our documents can be to the community. In the latests months, the website has consistently received a monthly average of at least 1000 visits per day (including week-end days).
Conference videos
We release free videos from technical conferences for people who lack time or money to participate to technical conferences, or who cannot run multiple instances of themselves. This is also a way to promote the free Ogg Theora video codec.
Code contributions
Utilities
- clink: Compacts directories by replacing duplicate files by symbolic links.
- cOOol: Checks OpenOffice.org documents for bad Links.
Projects
- Busybox: readahead applet, to reduce system startup time.

We now store our patches on http://free-electrons.com/pub/patches.
Here are patches which haven't been merged yet:
- Linux kernel patches for pxa lubbock emulation with SkyEye.
- Linux kernel patches
Development tools
- We produce uClibc cross-compiling toolchains for mosts platforms supported by uClibc.
- We produce KernelKit, a GNU/Linux live CD dedicated to kernel and embedded system developers.
