• Modern graphical environments (KDE or Gnome) restart the applications that were open when you logged out. However, most applications just get back to their initial state (not as good as hibernating!).

• You don't have to keep your computer on to keep all your favorite web pages open. Mozilla Firefox has a Bookmark All Tabs menu command. A single bookmark can be used to restore all your web page tabs at once.
